I have been practicing yoga for almost fifteen years. Having lived with chronic and acute anxiety, as well as chronic lower back pain, I was first drawn to the practice of yoga as a possible way to support my mental and physical health. I completed my 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with YogaHaven in 2017. Since then my own practice and teaching has evolved. I teach from a trauma-sensitive perspective, inviting students to practice in ways that feel safe and intuitive for their bodies.

I seek to understand how our lived experiences can shape how we feel in, and about, our bodies. I am particularly interested in how the practice of yoga can be used therapeutically to support physical and emotional well-being.

I teach grounding and foundational classes, which encourage students to focus on breath and body awareness. My classes are a gentle invitation for students to become curious about their physical and emotional bodies. I work to create a calm and supportive environment so that students feel comfortable to explore their practice in ways that work for their individual lives and lived experiences.

In 2021-2022 I trained with Susi Wrenshaw from Trauma Therapy Manchester to become an accredited trauma-informed yoga teacher. I had previously trained with Susi in 2019, building my knowledge and understanding of yoga as a trauma-sensitive practice. In 2020 I trained with Lisa Kaley-Isley, deepening my knowledge of Yoga for Anxiety and Depression, as well as training in Yoga for Cancer with Jude Mills.

I have been a carer, advocate and friend to young adults with learning disabilities and special educational needs, and have trained with Special Yoga, completing their flagship Special Yoga for Special Children course, as well as their Yoga for Adults with Special Needs course. My own understanding of supporting children and adults with learning disabilities and special needs has been shaped by my niece who has complex additional needs and also by my time as a live-in carer in the L’Arche Manchester Community, supporting four young adults with learning disabilities. I teach classes, and offer one-to-one sessions, with children and adults with learning disabilities and special educational needs, combining classic yoga practices of movement, breath awareness and deep relaxation, with sensory integration techniques.

I offer specialist teaching in yoga for people living with, or affected by, cancer, as well as yoga for individuals with mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression.

In my wider professional life, I have worked with individuals seeking asylum, with communities in the Global South impacted by conflict and poverty, with people living with mental health issues and with survivors of sexual abuse and rape. My work as a yoga practitioner has been significantly informed and influenced by the individuals and communities I have worked with.

I passionately believe that yoga should be accessible to anybody who is curious to explore the practice. To this end, I seek to create an environment where the individuality and lived experiences of each person is recognised, respected and embraced.
